Etymology of Disa:
Origin obscure. Börge Pettison believes the plant was named after Queen Disa who occurs in a Swedish legendary saga. The author, Peter Jonas Bergius, was a Swedish botanist.
Etymology of schlechteriana:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and/or his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa. Rudolf made more than 12 000 collections. His brother Max settled in Port Nolloth where he earned his living collecting and trading
