Etymology of Dorotheanthus:
For Dorothea Schwantes (1849–?) (née Meyer), wife of farmer Jürgen Meyer and mother of German professor and botanist Gustav Martin Heinrich Gustav Schwantes, who published the genus in her honour in 1927.
Etymology of bellidiformis:
From the Latin ‘bellidi’ / ‘bellis’ meaning ‘a daisy genus’; and the Latin ‘formis’ / ‘formis’ meaning ‘in the form of’.

Tufted annual. Leaves ligulate to spathulate. Flowers on pedicels to 25 mm long, red, yellow, salmon or white, 20--30 mm diam., petals longer than the sepals. Fruits with large or small closing bulge. Aug.--Sept. Mostly on sandy flats, NW, SW, AP, KM, LB (Namaqualand to Stilbaai).
