Etymology of Elytropappus:
Gk. elytron = a sheath, covering; pappos = down, fluff; referring to the small cup-like rim around the base of the feathery pappus (Plantzafrica.com); a second source says referring to the fluffy bracts.

Glabrescent, reddish brown shrublet to 80 cm. Leaves ericoid with margins rolled upward, widely spaced, spreading and twisted. Flower heads discoid, few in terminal glomerules, pink to red, 2--4-flowered. Mainly Feb.--Apr. Rocky sandstone slopes, KM (Swartberg Mts).
