Etymology of Galpinia:
Honouring Ernest Edward Galpin, 1888-1941, bank manager in various towns and great plant collector. He left some 16,000 sheets to the National Herbarium in Pretoria. General Smuts called him "Prince of Collectors".
Etymology of transvaalica:
From the former Transvaal Province of South Africa; now Gauteng Province. Trans meaning 'across', and vaal refers to the Vaal River, it being on the far side of the river from the Cape.
