Etymology of Gasteria:
Gk. gaster = abdomen, belly. The plant is named for its stomach-shaped flowers with swollen stems or the swollen base of the perianth tube (WPU Jackson) or the spikelets (Davesgarden.com).

From the Latin angustus = ‘narrow’; and folius = ‘leaf’.
