Etymology of Geissorhiza:
Gk. geisson = title; rhiza = root; alluding to the regular overlapping of the corm tunics in some species.
Etymology of wrightii:
Named after Felix Binns Wright (1907-?) veterinarian and nature conservationist; ed. Pretoria Univ. 1925–29, graduating B.V.Sc. Worked in the Government Veterinary Service 1930–45, in private practice at Mooi River 1946–51, and with the Natal Parks Board at Kamberg Nature Reserve from 1951 until his retirement in 1972, after which he settled at Nottingham Road.
