For Stanislaw Batys Górski (1802–1864), Polish botanist, entomologist, pharmacist and doctor. He studied medicine and natural sciences at Vilnius University, graduating in 1825, conducted research on flora in the Polish Bialowieza Forest (1826) and became head of the Botanical Garden of Vilnius University (1829–1832), during which time he compiled a catalogue of plants in the garden. From 1832–1841 he was assistant professor of botany and pharmacology at the Medical-Surgical Academy in Vilnius. He authored works on botany, entomology and zoology. In 1842 Vilnius University was closed by the Russian authorities, and the bulk of Górski’s natural history collections was transferred to Kiev; he saved a part of his private collection of insects and herbals.
