For Nicholas Jean Baptiste Gaston Guibourt (1790–1861), French pharmacologist and professor of pharmacology at the Ecole de Pharmacie, Paris from 1832, and member of the editorial board of the Journal of Pharmacy and Chemistry from 1846. He authored Histoire abrégée des Drogues Simples (A History of Plants Used for Extracting Drugs) (1869) and Manuel Légal des Pharmaciens et des Élèves en Pharmacie (Legal Handbook for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Students) (1852). He was a founder and populariser of the study of materia medica – that is, homeopathic medicines – in France. He published extensively on exotic woods and natural dyes and was appointed a member of the National Academy of Medicine in 1824.
