Short etymology:
For Eduard Gustav Haenel (Hänel) (1804–1856), German book publisher and type foundry owner, active in gardening societies. He learned the art of printing from his father, Jacob Haenel, and in 1824 inherited the latter’s print shop and in 1828 brought the Congreve high speed printing press to Germany. In 1830 he established a font foundry and created a number of polytypes to cater to the burgeoning lithographic press. His printing office acquired extensive fame through their skilful preparation of securities. The foundry went to Haenert’s colleague Wilhelm Gronau upon his death; Gronau retired in 1885.
