Etymology of Hallianthus:
For Harry Hall (1906–1986), an English gardener and collector of succulent plants, trained at the Cheshire Agricultural College (1925–1926), Reading University (1926–1927) and John Innes Institution (1928–1929). He worked at Kew Gardens (1930–1933), was curator of the Darrah cactus collection at Manchester (1933–1947) and horticulturist at the famed Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town (1947–1968). He was a major explorer of euphorbias in South Africa and made three collecting visits to Zimbabawe. It is estimated he collected some 5 000 specimens and an equal number of living plants. He was awarded a Fellow of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America in 1981.
