Etymology of Helixyra:
Gk. helix = a spiral, spirally twisting; xyron = razor; referring to the long lance-shaped leaves that twist slightly and the leaf edges that look ‘razor sharp’.
Etymology of mossii:
Named after Professor Charles Edward Moss (1870-1930), a British ecologist and later the first Professor of Botany at the University of the Witwatersrand.
