Short etymology:
For Johann Casimir Hertius (1679–1748), German physician. He studied at the University of Halle and became a professor of botany, anatomy and surgery at Universität Giessen (1714–1748), being elected rector thrice and dean of the medical faculty on nine occasions. Although, seemingly, he did not leave behind a legacy of scientific literature, he is acclaimed for his teaching skills, and four of his students held a chair at the university. His doctoral dissertation, De Crepitu Ossium (On the Clashing of the Bones) (1704) certainly sounds interesting.
