Gk. omereo = to meet together; referring to the filaments being united around the style.
Etymology of vallisbelli:
From the Latin vallis = 'valley' and bella = 'war', 'combat', 'fight'. This plant is from the Oorlogskloof, Afrikaans for war-valley. It is named after the fight that took place in the valley between the Khoi and settlers in 1739.
