Etymology of Hoodia:
Probably for Dr William Chamberlain Hood (1790–1879), British surgeon who lived in South Lambeth, London, and collected succulents.
Etymology of burkei:
Named in after Joseph Burke (1812-1873) who travelled to the Transvaal with Zeyher in 1840.
