Etymology of Lampranthus:
Gk. lampros = bright, shining; anthos = flower; referring to the light reflecting off the glossy petals.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
