Short etymology:
For Jørgen Landt (c 1753–1804), Danish pastor, botanist and researcher of the Faroe Islands. From 1777–1791, he was a private teacher with a special interest in botany, in Copenhagen and Frederiksborg. In 1791, he was appointed pastor of the Faeroe Islands, where he worked for the Nordstreymoy municipality. On behalf of the Natural History Society of Denmark, he gathered details about the natural history of the Faroe Islands. After seven years’ work there, he left the islands in 1798 as a result of a knee injury. He wrote Forsøg til en Beskrivelse over Færøerne (1800) and (as George Landt) A Description of the Faroe Islands (1810).
