Etymology of Lannea:
This name is derived from lanné = native name of the plant in Senegal and/or Gambia. Palmer suggests La. lana = wool; referring to the dense woolly hairs that cover the young parts of the tree or the roots of some species.

Named after Franz L. Stuhlmann a German (1863-1928) naturalist who collected plants and animals in East Africa
