Etymology of Lasiosiphon:
Gk. lasios = hairy, shaggy; siphon = tube. This group of plants (now included in Gnidia, q.v.) is characterised by woolly flower tubes.

From the Greek mikra = 'small' and kephalos = 'head'; i.e. having a small head of flowers
