Dioecious shrub to 1.5 m. Leaves elliptic-lanceolate, to 70 mm long, involucral leaves slightly larger, yellow. Male flower heads to 45 mm diam., female to 20 mm diam., strongly scented. July--Oct. Sandy flats, SW, AP (Viljoen's Pass to Gansbaai and Bredasdorp).
