Single-stemmed or resprouting and multi-stemmed dioecious shrub to 1.5 m. Leaves linear-oblanceolate, to 30 mm long, usually rough, involucral leaves linear-lanceolate, pale yellow. Male flower heads c. 11 mm diam., female 7--12 mm diam., foetid or yeast-scented. July.--Sept. Clay or silt flats, SW (Darling to Strand).
