Etymology of Lochnera:
For Michael Friedrich Lochner von Hummelstein (1662–1720), German botanist, polymath, physician, historian, artist and prolific writer. He studied at the gymnasium at Nuremberg and thereafter theology at Rostock, Copenhagen and Kiel, during which time he travelled extensively in Central Europe. In 1680 his interest switched to medicine, which he studied at Altdorf, qualifying in 1684. He joined the College of Nuremberg physicians in 1686, served as dean for three terms and in 1711 became director, then president of the Imperial Academy of Natural Philosophers. He was a prolific contributor to the academy’s periodical and corresponded with many of the illustrious men and historians of his era.
