Short etymology:
For Dr James Lückhoff, medical practitioner, educated at the University of Cape Town (1937) and in the Netherlands, a prominent doctor who practised in Cape Town and did studies on vitamin deficiencies in the African population. Also for his son Carl August Lückhoff (1914–1960), South African botanical artist, photographer, medical practitioner, naturalist, author of Table Mountain (1951) and Stapelieae of Southern Africa (1952). He also described several species of this group in semi-popular journals. Both father and son were friends of Rudolf Marloth and Harry Bolus and collected mainly living plants in the Cape Peninsula.
