For Konrad Bruun (Conrad Malte-Brun) (1755–1826), Danish-French geographer. In his youth, activism for press freedom and criticism of Crown Prince Frederick’s censorship laws led to his indictment. Fearing an unfair trial, he left for Sweden (1779), then Hamburg and eventually France (1799). He authored the six-volume Géographie Mathématique, Physique et Politique de Toutes les Parties du Monde (1803–1807) with Edme Mentelle, Les Annales des Voyages, de la Géographie et de l’Histoire (1819), and a treatise on Polish geography. He founded Les Annales des Voyages (in 1807) and was the first general secretary of the newly founded Société de Géographie (1822–1824). He died while drafting his major work, Précis de Géographie Universelle.
