Etymology of Maughaniella:
For Dr Herbert Maugham-Brown (1883–1940), South African physician and plant collector. He qualified with an MBChB in 1905, MD in 1907 from the University of Edinburgh, and took his DPH, RCPS Eng, in 1911, devoting himself to public health work in England. In 1919, he applied for the position of medical inspector of schools in the Cape Province and was appointed, with Dr Elsie Chubb, as joint medical inspector of schools. He lectured in school hygiene at the University of Cape Town and was an examiner in that subject for the department of education. He was an excellent field botanist and discovered several new plant species mainly in the south- and northwestern districts of the country.
