Gk. mesos = in the middle, between; embryon = fruit (embryo); anthemon = flower. The flowers need mid-day sunshine to open.
Etymology of otzenianum:
Named after Max Otzen who worked with Consolidated Diamond Mines at Luderitz from 1920-1930 and a keen collector of succulents.
