Gk. mesos = in the middle, between; embryon = fruit (embryo); anthemon = flower. The flowers need mid-day sunshine to open.
Etymology of sladenianum:
Named in recognition of the contribution made by the Percy Sladen Memorial Fund, administered by the Linnaean Society, to biological exploration.
