Etymology of Microdon:
Gk. mikros = very small; -odon = toothed. With small teeth – the calyx is five-toothed, the two anterior teeth sometimes more deeply incised than the other three.
Etymology of capitatus:
From the Latin capitatus meaning ‘equipped with a head’, tyically referring to the arrangement of the flowers in a head-like inflorescence.
