Short etymology:
Gk. mimus = an actor, mime, mimic; ops = face; sometimes interpreted as mimo = an ape; ops = face, hence like a monkey; referring to the corolla and the shape of the flowers, which allegedly resemble a monkey face. ‘The resemblance is at best obscure’ (Hugh Glen).
