Short etymology:
Derived from La. mollis = soft, pliant; -ugo, the standardised Latin suffix of plant family names. ‘The name comes from Galium mollugo, or Indian chickweed, supposed to be the Mollugo of the ancients’ (Sonder in Flora Capensis). Probably because of the similarity of their whorled leaves.
