Etymology of Muraltia:
After John M. von Muralt, Swiss botanist and author; flourished around 1576.
Etymology of gillettiae:
Named after Jan Bevington Gillett (1911-1995), a prolific collector around Africa. After serving in the war he joined John Hutchinson on a collecting tour in South Africa. In 1932 he collected plants in Ethiopia. He became the Principal Scientific Officer at Kew on the flora of Tropical East Africa and from 1959 became the botanist in charge of the herbarium in East Africa. He had a particular interest in Commiphoras and the flora of Somalia.
