Etymology of Nasturtium:
La. nasus = nose; tortus = tormented, twisted; from torquere = to twist. The acrid smell of N. officinalis (watercress) causes the nose to wrinkle. (No relation to the gardener’s ‘nasturtium’, which is a Tropaeolum.)
