Short etymology:
For Francisco Xavier Oakley de Aguiar Newton (1864–1909), British-born Portuguese plant collector. His father, the British botanist Isaac Newton (1840–1906), worked as a curator in the Botanical Garden of Porto, Portugal. For 17 years, Francisco collected for his father, initially in West Africa in the 1880s – Dahomey (1882–1883), Angola (1885–1886) – but later also in Portugal, Java, Cape Verde, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, São Tomé and Príncipe.
