Etymology of Oncinotis:
Gk. onkinos = hooked. The anthers and appendages are curiously hooked (Hugh Glen).
Etymology of oblanceolata:
From the Latin ob = 'opposed to' and lanceus = a 'spear' or 'lance', and is usually used to indicate a species with narrow leaves that taper to a point at one end; in this case oblanceolate is with the broadest end towards the tip of the leaf.
