From the Greek otheo, to burst forth; lobos. lobe or pod. The fruit of . caff rum seems to be "pushing out of the calyx" (author).

Resprouting subshrub to 15 cm, branches dark-hairy. Leaves 1-foliolate, elliptic, hairy on the veins, margins scabridulous; stipules glabrous. Flowers reddish-purple, calyx shortly white- and long black-hairy. Oct.--Nov., mostly after fire. Mountain fynbos, 400 m, SW (Kleinrivier Mts).
