Etymology of Pachycarpus:
From the Greek pachys, thick; karpos, fruit.
Etymology of transvaalensis:
From the former Transvaal Province of South Africa; now Gauteng Province. Trans meaning 'across', and vaal refers to the Vaal River, it being on the far side of the river from the Cape.
