Etymology of Pelargonium:
Gk. pelargos = a stork; referring to the beak of the fruit which resembles a stork’s bill (cf Geranium, Erodium).

Tufted rhizomatous shrublet to 30 cm. Leaves elliptic, toothed, densely hairy, c. 4 1--3 cm. Flowers to 7 on well-developed, branching peduncles, 25--40 mm diam., white to pink, upper petals overlapping and much larger; hypanthium 2--13 mm long, shorter than the pedicel. July--Mar. Open places on mountains, SW, KM, LB, SE (Elandskloof to Great Winterhoek Mts).
