For Arnold Penther (1865–1931), Austrian zoologist born in Italy who collected in South Africa and Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) from 1894–1895. He worked in the zoology department at the Vienna Natural History Museum from 1898–1924. From an analysis of the specimens he collected it seems he first collected from Cape Town northward to Clanwilliam where he met up with Rudolf Schlechter (1872–1975). A month after they returned to Cape Town the two men went eastward, eventually to Durban; being joined by a P Krook, about whom little is known. Penther’s third major excursion was from Durban to Southern Rhodesia. His plants were written up under the title ‘Plantae Pentherianae’ in Annalen des Naturhistorischen Museum in Wien.
