Short etymology:
Gk. pleuron = side, rib; achne = chaff, husks. Possibly referring to the plant’s glumes ‘glumes [husks] boat-shaped, ovate, very thick, stiff, the sides nearly occupied by the close thick white ribs (Flora Capensis).’
