Gk. plexis = weaving, plaiting; pous = foot. The synonym of Plexipus is Chascanum cunefolius, and with imagination this plant’s ‘foot-shaped’ petals moving around (the weave) would suit the the brief description.

From the Latin caespitis = 'grassy' or 'mound'; i.e. forming a low rounded mound
