Etymology of Plexipus:
Gk. plexis = weaving, plaiting; pous = foot. The synonym of Plexipus is Chascanum cunefolius, and with imagination this plant’s ‘foot-shaped’ petals moving around (the weave) would suit the the brief description.
Etymology of garipensis:
From the Gariep region of South Africa in the Orange Free State where the Gariep Dam is located; or may refer to the Orange River, also known as the Gariep River.
