{"type":"FeatureCollection","features":[]}
For Karl Joseph Leopoldt Arndt von Poellnitz (1896–1945), German botanist, agriculturist and specialist in succulent plant systematics. He studied agronomy and natural science at Leipzig University and owned an estate at Oberlödla, near Altenburg, Thüringen. He became a keen collector and observer of Haworthias and described some 25 ‘new’ Gasteria species between 1929 and 1940 and published, as author or coauthor, 215 new names, 175 of them were new taxa and 40 were new combinations. During the last days of World War II he died when a bomb destroyed his castle. Most of the Haworthias he described had been sent to the botanical museum of Berlin-Dahlem, photographed and preserved, and some survived despite the war.
