Etymology of Polemonium:
Gk. Polemonium, La. polemonia = ancient name of a plant, for a species of Hypericum, perhaps for the Greek valerian, otherwise called philetaeria and philetaeris (Plinius), Greek philetairion. Greek valerian or Jacob’s ladder are common names for Polemonium caeruleum, a hardy perennial flowering plant.
