Short etymology:
Speculatively, this word could be associated with the La. porcus = a pig or sow. The Italian word sow = scatter, as in the context of ‘scattering of seeds’. The new name for this genus Hypochaeris has the common name ‘false dandelion’ and is a weed, as is the common dandelion.
