Etymology of Prismatocarpus:
Gk. prisma = a thin saw, hence angular; karpos = fruit. The slender inferior ovary becomes greatly elongated; the fruits are shaped like prisms.

Like P. nitidus but leaves often opposite, occ. thinly hairy and upper internodes slender, wiry and peduncle-like. Fruits 10--15 mm long. Jan.--Mar. Sheltered sandstone crevices, NW, SW, LB, SE (Olifants River to Outeniqua Mts).
