Etymology of Prismatocarpus:
Gk. prisma = a thin saw, hence angular; karpos = fruit. The slender inferior ovary becomes greatly elongated; the fruits are shaped like prisms.

From the Latin decurrens = extending downward beyond the place of insertion: a decurrent leaf is a sessile leaf having its base extending downward along the stem
