Etymology of Prismatocarpus:
Gk. prisma = a thin saw, hence angular; karpos = fruit. The slender inferior ovary becomes greatly elongated; the fruits are shaped like prisms.

Sprawling subshrub or shrublet to 60 cm. Leaves linear-lanceolate, margins lightly revolute and ciliate below. Flowers 1--3 in the axils, sessile or pedicillate and occ. in pseudo-racemes, white or pale blue, bell-shaped, c. 5 mm diam. Fruits 4--15 mm long. Dec.--Mar. Sheltered sandstone slopes, SW, LB (Cape Peninsula to Kleinrivier Mts).
