Nama word Kam-qua-qua. La. quaqua = in every direction; everywhere. The plant is indigenous to southern Namibia and western South Africa.
Etymology of pilifera:
From Latin pilum a 'javelin / throwing spear' referring to a long straight hair and -ifer 'bearing or carrying'
