Short etymology:
For Léon Richard Quartin-Dillon (1814–1841), Portuguese botanist, physician, explorer and plant collector. He studied medicine under the physician and botanist Achille Richard (1794–1852) at the Faculty of Medicine at the Université de Paris, receiving his doctorate in 1839. His dissertation was titled Questions sur Diverses Branches des Sciences Médicales (1839). After graduating, he joined the Lefebvre expedition (1839–1843) to explore Ethiopia with botanist colleague Antoine Petit. Quartin-Dillon died of illness in 1841, and Petit drowned in the Tacazze River in 1843.
