Short etymology:
For Esprit Requien (1788–1851), French botanist, palaeontologist, malacologist, traveller, botanical explorer, director of the Botanical Garden of Avignon, and historical conservationist. Early in his life, he explored the Mont Ventoux, southern France and Corsica, and formed large collections of plants, minerals, shells and fossils. He developed a herbarium of international importance and discovered many taxa. He was a director of the Calvet Museum in Avignon for 34 years, where he founded the department of natural history. In 1840, he bequeathed his natural history collections and library reference collection to the Calvet Museum.
