Etymology of Restio:
La. restis = rope, cord-like; referring to a common use for the plant. Restios is known to have been used for rope.
Etymology of acockii:
John Phillip Harison Acocks (formerly Acock, 1911-1979), capetonian botanist. Appointed as a pasture ecologist. He devoted most of his life to the study of vegetation types especially regarding climax state and how and why it deteriorated. He amassed over 28 000 specimens from across South Africa with the main set in PRE.
